Match the school district
The coordinates are checked against public NCES EDGE school-district boundaries instead of relying only on a city name or ZIP code.
Filter schools by grade
The public NCES school directory is filtered to schools in the matched district that serve the selected grade.
Shortlist nearby schools
The closest candidates are shortlisted locally before routing, helping keep the live distance request focused.
Estimate road distance
Google Routes provides estimated driving distances from the searched address to the shortlisted schools.
Add district context
When a district policy has been verified, the road estimate is compared with the published guideline and its exceptions.
Point to the official source
The result links to the district transportation resource because the district makes final assignment and eligibility decisions.
What the distance comparison means
The road distance shown by Family Move Plan is an estimate from a commercial routing service. A district may measure from different points, such as a particular curb, entrance, driveway, or approved route. It may also update its process.
A result above or within a published threshold is therefore useful research context, not a guarantee. Hazardous-route rules, special programs, transfers, capacity decisions, and other district criteria may also change the final answer.
Public sources and provenance
Privacy and searched addresses
The current search uses an address to perform the requested geocoding, boundary, school, and route checks. Family Move Plan does not maintain user accounts or an application database of searched home addresses. Address results are not placed in public URLs or indexable pages.
